Airlines generate $1.5 billion in fees

{mosads}Delta Airlines brought in the most revenue from baggage fees with $226 million, up from $197 million in the first quarter of the year. The airline also led in reservation changes with $201 million, up from $190 million in the first quarter.

Some customers have expressed unhappiness with the fees, in particular the ones for checking bags, as they were introduced in 2008 when gas prices topped $4 per gallon.

Lawmakers have thus far not addressed the issue legislatively, but DOT has implemented an airline passengers Bill of Rights that, among other things, requires airlines to list all fees associated with their fares in promotions.
