Chevy sweeps car, truck of the year awards

Detroit-based automaker Chevrolet won the Car of the Year and Truck of the Year awards at the North American International Auto Show, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The awards were given to the Chevrolet Corvette and Silverado respectively, according to the report.

The paper said the Chevy wins represented the first sweep of the awards by a single automaker since Ford completed the feat in 2010.

“To take both the car and truck awards means a lot to the people who worked on it internally,” General Motors North America President Mark Reuss told the paper. “Also, I think practically, it helps to put us on the consideration map from buyers who might not otherwise consider our cars.”
