FBI targeting airplane laser pointers
The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for anyone who catches a person pointing a laser at a landing airplane, ABC News reports.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has said that the number of laser pointing incidents at commercial airplanes is rising, reaching nearly 4,000 last year according to the report.
{mosads}Pilots have said that lasers can temporarily blind them as they are attempting to land planes.
ABC reported that the FBI’s crackdown will focus on cities like Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles and Portland, which the agency said had the highest numbers of laser incidents reported in recent years.
Pointing lasers at airplanes is a felony that carries a sentence of up to five years in prison, the network reported.
