Airlines near 17,000 flight cancellations

Airlines canceled 1,617 flights on Friday as the East Coast recovers from a large snow storm, bringing the total number of cancellations to 16,696. 

Most of the cancelations this week were at major airline hubs in the Southeast U.S. like Atlanta and Charlotte, according to the website FlightAware.com

{mosads}Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson and Charlotte’s Douglas international airports had 1,499 and 1,425 outgoing flights canceled, respectively, this week.

The leading airport for cancellations on Friday was Newark’s Liberty International Airport, which had 154 incoming and 118 outgoing flights scratched.

Charlotte was second on Friday, with 122 outgoing and 166 incoming cancellations.

FlightAware reported that another 3,415 flights that were scheduled for Friday have been delayed.

The website said 79,171 flights were delayed for the week.
