Amtrak trains threatened by avalanche danger
Amtrak is busing passengers between two of its stations in Montana because of the potential for an avalanche, the Associated Press reports.
The skipped stations are located in Whitehouse and Shelby, Mont. on Amtrak’s northwestern Empire Builder line.
{mosads}An Amtrak spokesman said the company will continue busing passengers between the stations until at least Saturday, according to the report.
The freight rail company that owns the tracks the Amtrak Empire Builder operates on prohibits trains from running within a week of an avalanche, the spokesman said.
The Montana tracks were covered by seven inches of snow in an avalanche last week, the AP reported.
