FAA investigating near-plane collision at Houston airport

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigation a recent near-collision between two commercial airplanes at the Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, CNN reports

The planes were within a mile of each other when air traffic controllers instructed them to separate, according to the report.

No passengers were injured in the near-collision, which involved two United Airlines planes.

{mosads}The incident is the second close call involving major airliners in recent weeks. A pair of airplanes came close to colliding with each other at Newark, N.J.’s Liberty International Airport earlier this month.

In that case, the airplanes were attempting to take off and land on a pair of intersecting runways. The Newark jets, which were also both operated by United, came within 50 yards of each before air traffic controllers directed the landing plane to abort its attempt and circle the airport.
