India parks world’s longest-running car model
Indian automobile manufacturer Hindustan Motors is ending production of its Ambassador model vehicles, which have been the longest continuously developed cars in the world, Fox News reports.
The Ambassador, which was first released in 1948, have been historically been seen as a car of choice for wealthy Indian citizens, according to the report.
The company has now closed its plant in Uttarpara, India, where the Ambassadors have been produced.
{mosads}The report attributed the decision to sluggish sales of the Ambassador, which was a large model that became seen as a poor gas mileage vehicle.
In 2013, Hindustan Motors only sold 2,214 of the Ambassadors, according to the report.
