NORAD fighter jets escort flight back to airport

A commercial flight to Cuba was escorted into Toronto’s Pearson International Airport by North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) fighter jets on Wednesday night.

The flight, which was operated by Toronto-based Sunwing Airlines, was en route to Cuba when a pair of passengers on board became unruly, according to a report in The Toronto Sun newspaper.

NORAD officials said they scrambled two CF-18 fight jets from Bagotville, Quebec, to escort the plane back to Toronto “as a precautionary measure.

{mosads}“Once the aircraft was safely on the ground, the Canadian fighters returned to their home base,” the agency said in a statement.

The flight was allowed to resume its trip to Cuba after the disruptive passengers were removed from the plane, according to the report.
