Las Vegas drone flight violated FAA rules

A drone that flew over the Las Vegas strip in July violated rules prohibiting non-military use of the technology, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. 

The drone was carrying an advertisement near the Mirage hotel and casino, according to the report. 

Federal rules currently ban most commercial drone use in the U.S., although the FAA is under increasing pressure to quickly approve the use of non-military, unmanned vehicles alongside commercial airplanes and private jets.

{mosads}The agency has been testing the interaction between drones and other types of commercial and private airplanes at multiple sites across the country. 

Online companies such as Amazon have clamored for the freedom to use drones soon to speed up delivery times, and Congress has mandated that the FAA complete testing by September 2015.
