TSA relocating northern Virginia headquarters

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is relocating its Washington area headquarters to Alexandria, Va. 

The agency is moving out of its Arlington, Va., location in 2018, according to the General Services Administration, which negotiates office spaces deals for federal agencies. 

The GSA said the move to Alexandria would save TSA $95 million over the life of the 15-year lease it is signing with the new location, because it will be paying a rate that is 25 percent below market rents in the northern Virginia area. 

{mosads}”This is yet another great GSA-negotiated deal for government and the American people,” the agency said in a statement announcing the TSA’s move. 

“The new lease agreement allows TSA to consolidate four locations into one at a rental rate and utilization rate that will ensure the agency is more efficient and effective in executing its mission,” the GSA statement continued. 

The TSA has more than 50,000 employees, including nearly 4,000 that would work at is Washington, D.C., area headquarters.

The agency is scheduled to remain its its current Arlington, Va., location until 2018.
