Chamber taps new transportation director

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has tapped a familiar face to be its next transportation and infrastructure director. 

The organization announced on Wednesday that former Aecom Government Relations Director Ed Mortimer, who is also a former Chamber of Commerce transportation director, would be returning to the position.

Chamber officials said Mortimer will “oversee the development and implementation of the Chamber’s transportation and infrastructure policy and will represent the Chamber on Capitol Hill as well as before the administration and other industry organizations in regards to this issue area,” in his return.

{mosads}The group said Mortimer would be a good fit for its lobbying efforts after the recently-completed success push for a long-term highway funding bill. 

“Ed has a keen understanding of the issues and challenges facing the transportation sector and is a proven leader with a track record of getting things done,” Jack Howard, senior vice president for congressional and public affairs at the Chamber, said in a statement. 

“Congress may have just passed a long-term highway bill, but there is still a lot of work to be done in regards to strengthening our nation’s transportation infrastructure systems and we are excited to have Ed leading those efforts for the Chamber,” Howard continued. 

“We are glad to bring Ed back to the U.S. Chamber,” Howard concluded. “We know he will be a tireless advocate for the business community in regards to transportation infrastructure needs.”

Mortimer is a graduate of The American University, and he also completed an executive management program at Georgetown University.
