TSA: Loaded gun confiscated at DC airport
{mosads}“The man had a Virginia concealed weapons permit and claimed that he forgot the firearm was in his carry-on bag,” the agency said in a statement. “Passengers are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the security checkpoint, and TSA’s advice to passengers is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items.”
The agency said passengers can be fined up to $11,000 for attempting to carry prohibited items through airport security.
“Last year, TSA assessed more than $1.8 million in civil penalties for firearms discovered in traveler’s carry-on bags,” the agency said.
According to TSA, airline passengers are allowed to carry guns onto airplanes if they are packed into checked bags and declared at the ticket counter.
