Reid: Foxx a ‘wise choice;’ LaHood a ‘star’
{mosads}Obama officially nominated Foxx to replace LaHood at the helm of the transportation department last week.
Foxx is currently the mayor of Charlotte, N.C., which is where Obama accepted the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination last year.
The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee is expected to hold a confirmation on Foxx hearing later this month.
Some in the transportation industry have whispered that Foxx does not have enough direct experience in the field, but the mayor’s defenders point to his support for public transit projects in Charlotte like light rail and street cars.
Intra-city transit groups have hailed Foxx’s opponent as a potential victory for their methods of transportation over other modes like roads and airlines.
Foxx has kept a low profile since accepting the DOT nomination at the White House on April 29, returning to Charlotte after appearing with Obama and LaHood.
