Authorities seize bricks of cocaine stashed in American Airlines plane
Authorities have seized $200,000 worth of cocaine that was discovered in the nose of an American Airlines plane at a maintenance base in Tulsa, Okla., on Sunday night.
The plane, which originated in Bogota, Colombia, landed in Miami and was flagged for maintenance. The base in Miami was too busy, however, so it was diverted to Tulsa instead.
The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office said that an airline technician noticed the insulation in the nose of the Boeing 757 looked different, so he moved it aside and discovered seven bricks, or around 30 pounds, of cocaine.

“That’s a lot of cocaine, so we suspect cartel involvement,” Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Roebuck told Tulsa World news. “That’s why we’re turning it over to the DEA.”
