Multiple flights delayed after Boy Scout brings toy grenade to airport

Multiple flights were delayed Thursday after TSA agents at an airport in Houston spotted what they thought was a grenade in a checked bag.

The device discovered at Hobby Airport turned out to be a novelty grenade, according to a local ABC affiliate, which reported that it was found inside a 17-year-old Boy Scout’s bag.

At least 18 flights were delayed as a result of the incident, airport spokesman Bill Begley told CNN, though no flights were canceled because of the incident.

The boy was not held by authorities and it is unknown whether his parents will be subject to any fines due to the incident.

The airport had tweeted shortly after 4:30 a.m. local time that the device had been removed as tweets showed passengers waiting for the all-clear.

The airport later acknowledge the incident in a tweet, sharing a list of items travelers are not allowed to bring to airports.

“Now might be a good time for a gentle reminder that there are items you CANNOT bring through security checkpoints. Please double check this list before heading to ANY airport for a flight,” the airport wrote.
