Hundreds of flights canceled, thousands delayed as winter storms snarl Thanksgiving travel

Hundreds of flights have been canceled and thousands have been delayed this week amid winter storms as many are traveling for Thanksgiving. 

There were 662 cancellations in the U.S. on Tuesday and another 93 slated for Wednesday, as of Wednesday morning, according to the website FlightAware.

On Tuesday there were 4,651 delays and as of Wednesday morning there were 369 delays. 

The site noted that 228 flights headed toward the Denver airport and 263 leaving from that airport were among the Tuesday cancellations after the area faced a storm this week

On Tuesday, Southwest Airlines had the most canceled flights, with 234, followed by SkyWest with 140 and United Airlines with 82. 

USA Today reported that major airlines were waiving flight change fees ahead of the Colorado storm.
