House Republicans will hold a field hearing Tuesday to examine the impact of federal regulations on Michigan businesses.
The House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on government operations hearing will focus on several controversial rules the Obama administration has proposed that Republicans have say are holding back job creation and hurting economic growth in Michigan.
Lawmakers will look at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) proposed silica dust rule, which manufacturers say would greatly increase their costs and could take a bite out of Detroit’s auto industry.
They hearing will also look at a proposed rule from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) that would speed up union elections, and the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rule governing the waters of the U.S. Michigan is surround by the Great Lakes, all of which could be affected by the rule.
Subcommittee Chairman John Mica will make the trip to Plymouth Township, Mich., as will Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-Mich.), whose district is where the hearing will be held.
Three Michigan congressmen sit on the full Oversight Committee, including Bentivolio, Rep. Justin Amash, and Rep. Tim Walberg, all Republicans.
Four Michigan businessmen will also be invited to testify.
