Company recalls 14 brands of bottled water

Niagara Bottling has voluntarily recalled 14 brands of bottled water for potential E. coli contamination.

The California-based company said Monday the recall only applies to spring water bottled at two of its Pennsylvania plants in Hamburg and Allentown between June 10 and June 18. The recall does not relate to any purified water or any spring water produced outside of Pennsylvania or outside the June 10-18, 2015 timeframe.

Impacted brands include Acadia, Acme, Big Y, Best Yet, 7-Eleven, Niagara, Nature’s Place, Pricerite, Superchill, Morning Fresh, Shaws, Shopright, Western Beef Blue and Wegman’s.

Niagara Bottling said an operator at one of its contracted springs fails to notify the company that there was evidence of E. coli bacteria at the spring source. The company said it has a quality system and disinfection technology to ensure its products are free of contaminants.

“We have confirmed there have been no issues or E. coli contamination of any kind detected in our finished products or in the spring water that was delivered to our bottling facility,” the company said in a news release.

Niagara Bottling is advising consumers to check their Best By codes found on the outer-wrap shrink film or on the bottle.

The affected products have codes that begin with the letter F for Hamburg or A for Allentown, the company said. The first digit after the letter indicates the number of the production line, the next two numbers indicate the day, then the month in letters, the year and then the time.

Products made between June 10 at 3 a.m. EDT and June 18 at 8 p.m. EDT should not be used.
