New regs for Monday: Coal mines, airlines
Monday’s edition of the Federal Register contains new safety requirements for underground coal mines and disability protections for airline passengers.
Here’s what is happening:
Coal mines: The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is proposing new safety requirements for underground coal mines.
The safety requirements announced earlier this month for underground coal mines address proximity detection systems for mobile machines.
The MSHA is now announcing a list of public hearings to discuss the rule. The agency will hold four hearings in October in West Virginia to Indiana, Colorado and Alabama.
Airplanes: The Department of Transportation is looking into cases of discrimination by airlines against people with disabilities.
By Dec. 12, airlines will be required to allow customers with disabilities to request accommodations online.
The Transportation Department issued an information collection request Friday so it can follow the implementation of the non-discrimination on the basis of disability in air travel regulation.
