New regs for Monday: Cybersecurity, pesticides, energy labels
Monday’s edition of the Federal Register contains new cybersecurity requirements for nuclear reactors, protections for agricultural workers and requirements for energy labels on household appliances.
Here’s what is happening:
Farms: The Environmental Protection Agency is moving forward with new protections for agricultural workers who handle pesticides.
{mosads}The worker protections will strengthen requirements for pesticide training, the use of protective equipment and the availability of washing and emergency decontamination supplies.
Family-run farms will be exempt from the rules.
The rules go into effect on Jan. 4, 2016.
Cybersecurity: The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is moving forward with new cybersecurity requirements for nuclear power reactors.
The cybersecurity requirements build on security advisories the agency has issued and ensure the safety of computer networks and communication systems at nuclear power reactors.
The rules go into effect in 30 days.
Energy labels: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is moving forward with changes to the energy labeling rule.
The FTC will require more durable appliance labels. The agency will also strengthen the plumbing disclosure requirements.
Meanwhile, air conditioner labels will now be placed outside the packaging so they are more visible to consumers.
The changes go into effect beginning Dec. 2, 2015.
