Disneyland, SeaWorld stepping up security over mass shootings

Amid a growing number of high-profile mass shootings, American theme parks like Disney and SeaWorld are installing metal detectors in a bid to prevent gun violence.

{mosads}According to news reports, Walt Disney World, Disneyland, SeaWorld and Universal Studios are all stepping up security measures for the holidays, from installing metal detectors and using wand detectors to conducting bag checks.

The move follows the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, and mass shootings in San Bernardino, Calif., and Colorado Springs.

Gun control advocates seized on the moves to call for major reforms.

“The gun lobby’s lap dogs in Congress would rather pat down and screen children in places where they shouldn’t have a care in the world,” said Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. “Now, families can’t even go to ‘The Happiest Place on Earth’ to escape the realities of gun violence in this country.”
