Dennis Quaid, Amanda Peet push gun control in Funny or Die video
Gun control advocates are teaming with Hollywood.
In a new Funny or Die video sponsored by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, celebrities Dennis Quaid and Amanda Peet call for background checks on “every single gun sale.”
{mosads}”Football, Taylor Swift, and dogs are some of the most popular things in this country,” Quaid says in the video released Wednesday.
“But is there something even more of us agree on?” Peet asks.
“Ninety-three percent of Americans think that we should have universal background checks on every single gun sale,” Quaid responds.
The video references studies conducted by gun control groups that found the majority of Americans — including Republicans and members of the National Rifle Association (NRA) — support measures to expand background checks.
Currently, most gun owners must pass a background check before purchasing a firearm from a federally licensed gun dealer. But some gun owners elude this requirement by purchasing firearms online or at gun shows.
Gun control advocates are pushing for universal background checks that would close this loophole, but they have been met by fierce resistant from Republicans in Congress.
“Background checks are more popular with Americans than Taylor Swift, dogs, and football,” Peet says.
“So why won’t Congress do anything about it?” Quaid asks as the video fades.
