Study: Immigration laws on the rise in states

Congress has yet to address immigration reform and is unlikely to take it up in an election year, but the number of states tackling the issue continues to grow.

The National Conference of State Legislatures released a new study that found state immigration laws increased by 26 percent in 2015.

States issued a total of 216 laws and 274 resolutions on immigration last year, according to the report. In fact, all but one state tackled the issue.

Texas and California were the most active states, the study found.

The immigration laws affected illegal immigrations, refugees, and migrant and seasonal workers. They addressed issues such as law enforcement, identification documents, human trafficking, and education.
