New regs for Tuesday: CIA, housing

Tuesday’s edition of the Federal Register contains new CIA rules for sharing classified documents and a look at energy costs in the housing sector.

Here’s what is happening:

Top Secret: The CIA is moving forward with new procedures for providing other federal agencies with access to classified materials.

These procedures will only apply to historical CIA records that are classified.

The changes go into effect immediately.

Housing: The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is looking to examine energy costs in the residential housing sector.

HUD is requesting permission from the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to collect energy benchmarking information at public housing and assisted housing facilities, where it spends $6.4 billion each year on utilities.

According to HUD, residential buildings are responsible for about one-fifth of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions.

This information collection request could help shape HUD’s future rulemakings.

“HUD is committed to creating energy-efficient, water-efficient, and healthy housing as part of a broader effort to foster the development of inclusive, sustainable, and resilient communities,” the agency wrote.
