New regs for Friday: Money, women, minorities
Friday’s edition of the Federal Register contains new rules affecting women and minorities, money transfers and fruit importation restrictions.
Here’s what is happening:
Imports: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is strengthening certain fruit and vegetable importation restrictions.
Under the Obama administration, the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service loosened the importation restrictions for Argentinian lemons. To comply with President Trump’s regulatory moratorium, the USDA is delaying those changes for a second time, essentially strengthening the rules.
The changes are now scheduled to go into effect on May 26.
Money: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will review money transfer rules.
The CFPB announced Thursday a plan to assess the agency’s regulations for “consumer remittance transfers,” better known as money or “wire” transfers.
The review could lead to potential future rulemaking.
The public has 60 days to comment.
Women and minorities: The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) is rewriting regulations for a program that promotes women and minorities.
The changes go into effect immediately.
