New regs for Wednesday: Worker safety, conservation, transportation

Wednesday’s edition of the Federal Register contains a review of worker safety and conservation rules.

Here’s what is happening:

Worker safety: The Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is looking to review the presence-sensing device initiation standards.

Presence-sensing devices “automatically stop the stroke of a mechanical power press” when a worker is detected in the danger zone.

OSHA is requesting permission from the White House’s Office of Management and Budget to continue collecting information on the implementation of this standard. The results could lead to future rule changes.

The public has 30 days to comment.

Conservation: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is reviewing a conservation rule.

This is part of a periodical retrospective review process for existing regulations determined to have a “significant economic impact” on small businesses.

The public has until May 15 to comment.

Transportation: The Department of Transportation is realigning the management responsibilities to give the office of the secretary more say over divisions within the agency.

The changes go into effect immediately.
