New regs for Tuesday: Legal, investment, FOIA
Tuesday’s edition of the Federal Register contains new rules for lawyers, investing in small businesses and the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
Here’s what is happening:
Lawyers: The Legal Services Corporation is moving forward with new rules for fee-generating cases.
{mosads}“This rule clarifies the definition of ‘fee-generating case,’ clarifies that brief advice is permitted by the regulation, and revises how a recipient accounts for attorneys’ fees awards,” the agency said.
The changes go into effect in 30 days.
FOIA: The Overseas Private Investment Corporation is moving forward with new rules under the FOIA.
These rules include changes to the FOIA process.
The changes go into effect immediately.
Investment: The Small Business Administration (SBA) is delaying an investment rule for the third time.
The SBA published the rule last December in an effort to “expand permitted investments in passive businesses,” but the agency said Monday it is considering changes to the rule.
The agency is delaying the investment rule until Aug. 18 as it contemplates the changes.
