New regs for Friday: TV, death, poultry

Friday’s edition of the Federal Register contains new rules for television stations, death benefits and poultry standards.

Here’s what is happening:

TV: The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is making changes to the national television ownership rule.

The FCC said Thursday it will reinstate the discount for ultra high frequency (UHF) stations after the Obama administration eliminated the discount last August. This “allows commercial broadcast television station owners to discount the audience reach of their UHF stations when calculating compliance.” 

The changes go into effect in 30 days.

Death: The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board is moving forward with new regulations for death benefits.

The changes go into effect on May 15.

Poultry: The U.S. Department of Agriculture is moving forward with new rules under the national poultry improvement plan.

The changes will “establish new biosecurity principles, amend testing procedures for Mycoplasma, clarify laboratory procedures for Salmonella, and add new diagnostic tests for Mycoplasma and Salmonella,” among other things.

The changes go into effect in 60 days.
