Feds unveil shortlist for new FBI headquarters
The FBI appears poised to move its headquarters out of Washington, with officials focusing on a trio of possible new homes in Maryland and Virginia.
A joint panel of officials from the FBI and the General Services Administration (GSA) has narrowed the candidates to two locations in Prince George’s County, Md., and one in Fairfax County, Va., the GSA said Tuesday.
{mosads}The move comes almost 40 years after FBI personnel moved into their current headquarters, the J. Edgar Hoover Building on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Maryland possibilities, both in close proximity to the Beltway, include a site near the Greenbelt Metro Station and one at the site of the former Landover Mall.
The Virginia candidate is the GSA Franconia Warehouse Complex located near the intersection of Interstate 95 and Franconia Road in Springfield.
All three locations will be subject to reviews under the National Environmental Policy Act, and the agencies will accept public comments on the options.
Meanwhile, the GSA will offer a request for proposal seeking to identify potential developers. After that, the agencies put out a formal request for bids.
