Obama’s budget would legalize pot in DC
Marijuana would be legalized in Washington, D.C., under President Obama’s budget proposal, pot advocates say.
{mosads}Buried deep inside President Obama’s $4 trillion government-spending bill is a small provision that would pave the way for marijuana sales in the city, argues Tom Angell, chairman of the Marijuana Majority, which drew attention to the change.
Last November, the city’s voters approved a ballot measure that would legalize the sale of marijuana.
But before the D.C. government could develop a system to regulate and tax marijuana sales, Congress stepped in and blocked the measure.
Obama’s budget proposal would subtly roll back the move by Congress, freeing the city’s government to move forward with the plan.
