Trump attorney blows off weight of criminal charges: ‘We’re not concerned’

An attorney and legal spokesperson for former President Trump on Sunday insisted that his team has no concerns over the mounting criminal charges he faces, which carry hundreds of potential years in prison, and maintained there is no need to prep the former president for numerous upcoming trials.

“We’re not concerned because we know the facts of these cases, which I can’t get into obviously for privileged reasons,” Alina Habba said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday” with Shannon Bream. “But I can tell you that it’s to tie him up, it’s definitely political.” 

Trump was booked last week in Fulton County in Georgia where he faces 13 counts over an alleged scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state. His charges follow a multiyear investigation by District Attorney Fani Willis (D), whom some Republicans have accused of coordinating with the team of special counsel Jack Smith, who earlier brought federal charges against Trump for his efforts to remain in power after the 2020 election. Willis has not addressed any such coordination, but Habba insisted otherwise.

“There’s very much a coordinated effort,” Habba said. “And if you ever doubted it, think about how Fani when she was asked at her press conference if she was coordinating with Jack Smith in D.C. and the government couldn’t give us a yes or no. That says it all.” 

Habba also insisted that there was no need to prep Trump for any of the four upcoming trials he faces and that they are not concerned because he’s “intelligent.”

“How do you logistically handle, you know, prepping a client for all those different trials and running for president of the United States?” Bream asked.

“Yeah. If it was a normal person, honestly, Shannon, I could understand the concern. President Trump is not your average person. He’s incredibly intelligent and he knows the ropes. He also knows the facts because he lived them,” Habba said.

“What is going to have to be prepped for? The truth?” Habba later added. ”You don’t have to prep much when you’ve done nothing wrong, so that I’m not concerned with.” 

Habba added she believes the trial dates will change, calling them “unrealistic” and “theatrics.” 

Trump was indicted four times this year, making him the first U.S. president to face criminal charges. In addition to charges in Georgia, Trump is separately charged in Washington, D.C., for his attempts to remain in power after the 2020 election and in Florida over his alleged mishandling of classified documents after he left office. In New York, he is being charged for making alleged hush money payments during the 2016 presidential race.
