Man charged with making threats against Biden, Harris, Obama

A man has been charged with making threats against the current president, the vice president and a former president, United States Attorney Kevin G. Ritz said Friday according to a press release.

The 37-year-old, known as Kyl Alton Hall, posted multiple times via the social platform X in late June, according to the release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee.

“Specifically, in the posts, he threatened to kill, assassinate, shoot, and crash the plane of President Biden; assassinate Vice President Harris; and assassinate former President Obama,” the release stated.

Hall is facing counts including “two counts of threats to a sitting President and Vice President in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 871(a), and one count of a threat to a former President under Section 879(a)(1),” according to the release.

Hall’s alleged posts occurred only weeks prior to former President Trump facing an assassination attempt.

Following the attempt, both Republicans and Democrats pushed for the calming of political hostilities.

“The political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated. It’s time to cool it down,” Biden said the day after the shooting. “This places an added burden on all of us that no matter how strong our convictions, we must never descend into violence.”
