Trial date set for former officer charged in Andre Hill death
A former police officer from Columbus, Ohio, will go on trial March 7 for murder and other charges related to the fatal shooting of Andre Hill, a Black man who was killed in December.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Stephen L. McIntosh on Monday set the trial date for former Columbus Police Officer Adam Coy, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
Coy, 44, was indicted on counts of murder, felonious assault and reckless homicide in February. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The former officer has been free on $1 million bond, the Dispatch reported.
Hill, 47, was shot and killed by Coy after a neighbor called police about a car turning on and off for about half an hour. Coy arrived on the scene and spoke with Hill before Hill went into a garage. Body-camera footage showed Hill came out of the garage holding a cell phone before Coy shot him four times.
Coy was fired from the Columbus Division of Police after the incident.
The city of Columbus in May said it would pay Hill’s family $10 million in a settlement.
