As climate regs loom, coal stocks plummet
The shares of big U.S. coal producers dropped Monday, as demand suffers in the face of forthcoming regulations meant to counter the effects of climate change, The Associated Press reports.
The roughly four-percent drop came as the Dow Jones industrial average soared, trading above 16,000 for the first time.
The Obama administration is moving forward with regulations that would impose new limits on carbon emissions from power plants.
Industry groups say the rules could kill the American coal industry.
