Feds protect endangered frogs
Frogs are gaining new protections from the Obama administration.
The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) announced Thursday that it is establishing a critical habitat to protect a group of endangered frogs.
{mosads}The habitat, which ranges across 1.8 million acres in Nevada and California, will apply to the Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog, northern mountain yellow-legged frog and the Yosemite toad.
These frogs have suffered significant population declines in recent years.
The FWS listed both yellow-legged frogs as endangered, and the Yosemite toad as threatened, in April 2014.
This critical habitat furthers those protections.
It goes into effect in 30 days.
