Wal-Mart supplier recalls beef patties

A Wal-Mart supplier is recalling about 89,568 pounds of beef patties amid worries they have been contaminated with pieces of wood.

The recall applies to all 2-pound boxes of Sam’s Choice Black Angus Vidalia Onion beef patties with use-by dates of May 5, May 29 and June 6, 2016.

{mosads}Huisken Meat Company, a Sauk Rapids, Minn.–based company, makes the product for the private Wal-Mart Sam’s Choice label. The boxes, which contain six beef patties, were shipped nationwide and bear an establishment number “EST. 394A” inside the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) mark of inspection.

The USDA, which made the announcement Monday, said the foreign material came from an added ingredient and was discovered during production.

So far, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from people who have consumed the product.
