AFL-CIO to drive ‘millions of women’ to the polls for Clinton
The AFL-CIO is launching an effort to drive women to the polls in November.
The nation’s largest labor federation committed Wednesday to mobilize millions of women to vote for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in November.
{mosads}”Hillary Clinton’s historic nomination for president shattered the glass ceiling, and we stand behind her,” AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Liz Shuler said in a statement. “She shares our values and has put forth a plan that will help working women achieve equal rights along with the respect and dignity we deserve.”
As president, Clinton would “lift up working women,” Shuler said.
The AFL-CIO will reach out to women “on the doors, on the phone, at work and in our communities,” Shuler said. The discussions will focus on equal pay for women and other family-friendly policies.
“Women make up more than half of the U.S. electorate, and we vote at higher rates than men,” Shuler said. “From now until November, the AFL-CIO will be talking to women voters about the issues that impact them the most.”
