Labor board focuses on Mexican workers

This month, the NLRB signed an agreement with the Mexican government to strengthen efforts to inform Mexicans in the U.S. of their rights under the National Labor Relations Act. The law, signed in 1935, gives workers the right to collectively bargain for better wages and working conditions.

To build on that compact, the labor board is hosting a series of events in states from California to Texas to New Jersey to meet with Mexican consulates and distribute information about its work.

“We are committed to working together to provide outreach, education, and training on the rights of workers under the National Labor Relations Act,” acting NLRB General Counsel Lafe Solomon said.

The push to educate Mexican workers is one of the first undertaken by the five-seat board, which only recently was filled with a slate of Senate-confirmed members.
