Wednesday’s meeting announcements: Reviewing earthquake predictions

Some federal advisory panels are planning to get together in the next few weeks. Here’s what’s on the executive branch’s calendar:

The U.S. Geological Survey’s council on evaluating earthquake predictions is meeting in Menlo Park, Calif., on Nov. 4 and 5 to review data on earthquake predictions.

{mosads}The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s panel on Fukushima, Japan, is meeting on Nov. 5 to review and discuss recommendations on enhancing the agency’s regulatory framework. The next day, the commission’s committees on a reactor design and planning and procedures will get together. 

From Nov. 6 to 21, the Department of Education will hold forums on college value and affordability in Los Angeles; Arlington, Va.; Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Baton Rouge, La. 

On Nov. 7, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s advisory panel on reactor safeguards is meeting in Rockville, Md. 

A federal panel on improving the way that elections are run will hold a public teleconference on Nov. 14. 

The Department of Homeland Security’s advisory committee for Customs and Border Protection’s commercial operations will meet on Nov. 15 in Washington. 

On Nov. 19 and 20, a Commerce Department panel on systems for observing the ocean is meeting via teleconference. 

An Energy Department advisory board for environmental management in Nevada is meeting in Las Vegas on Nov. 20. 

The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts is scheduled to meet on Nov. 21 at its offices in Washington. Buildings, parks and memorials may be on the agenda. 

On Nov. 21 and 22, the Department of Energy’s advisory committee for biomass research is meeting in Washington. 

NASA’s panel for space-based positioning, navigating and timing will meet on Dec. 4 and 5 in Washington. 

Starting Dec. 6, the Forest Service’s advisory committee for Virginia will hold a series of meetings in the town of Roanoke, Va.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) panels for drug safety and gastrointestinal drugs is meeting on Dec. 9. 

On Dec. 11, the FDA’s advisory committee for endocrinologic and metabolic drugs is meeting in Silver Spring, Md., to develop recommendations for the agency’s regulations. 

The Education Department’s committee on institutional quality and integrity is holding a meeting on Dec. 12 and 13 in Washington.
