Britain takes another look at e-cig regs

After rejecting a proposal to regulate the burgeoning e-cigarette industry, the British government is now considering new labeling and packaging requirements, The New York Times reports.

British regulators publicly said regulations were on the table earlier this year, but observers believed it had the effort had stalled, according to the Times.

The renewed effort would be modeled on standardized packaging requirements imposed in Australia, the newspaper reported.

Earlier this year, the European Parliament rejected a proposal to subject e-cigarettes to the same regulatory standards as medicines, according to RegWatch. That was seen as a major win for the e-cigarette industry, which is expected to eclipse $1.75 billion in global sales this year.
