Chief Communications Officer

POSITION SUMMARY

American Promise seeks a strategic and experienced leader to serve as Chief Communications Officer (CCO). This individual will lead and direct American Promise’s internal and external communications and marketing functions. As a senior leader within the organization, this position will play a critical role in developing organization-wide communications strategies to increase the state and national impact of our work.

Most Americans identify the #1 threat to the promise of American self-government to be the influence of big money in politics. American Promise is leading the 50-state effort to address this threat via an amendment to the U.S Constitution to restore power to the States and to Congress, as they each may see fit, to set reasonable limits on campaign money. Ratifying this amendment requires supermajority support from the American people and their elected representatives in both the states and Congress, and this necessitates a communications approach that can reach, inspire, and mobilize Americans where they are politically and ideologically.

American Promise’s federal strategy is advanced, among other means by a state-based approach, now expanding in states such as Utah, Wyoming, Texas, Wisconsin, and others. This expansion into purple and red states provides an excellent opportunity for an individual who is deeply committed to the principles of federalism, limited government, and the integrity of American elections to help build the organization’s profile and impact.

Reporting to the President, the American Promise CCO will oversee a small but growing team and serve as a member of the executive leadership team. The CCO will partner with staff throughout the organization to deliver on American Promise’s mission and will demonstrate and uphold our values in action.
