Nick Dyer: Deputy chief of staff, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)

Nick Dyer, the deputy chief of staff for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, has been by the Georgia Republican’s side for her entire tenure in Congress, playing a role in her messaging strategy — which has helped influence policy and, at times, incite disagreements in the House GOP conference.

Dyer — who joined Greene’s team late in her 2020 campaign — helps Greene craft her message, much of which is spread on social media. Dyer said he assists Greene with composing posts for her social platform X account, which has millions of followers.

“She writes most of her tweets. I sometimes give drafts, I help with the messaging, we talk about how do we want to frame certain things to, again, match her agenda,” Dyer told The Hill in an interview.

Dyer has also helped Greene in with her legislative strategy, including forced votes on impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, ousting Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and censuring Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).

“You have to figure out what is the most effective, and what is the most powerful way to do that,” Dyer said. “And so we discuss timing. We discuss how to do it. We discuss when are we gonna do it? What’s the best day to do it? What’s the best way to message it? Do we talk to somebody in advance to promote it or do we just do it and then let it happen, let the chips fall where they may.”

Dyer is a familiar face on Capitol Hill. The staffer is frequently seen beside Greene filming while she is talking to the press, videos that often appear later on X. Dyer said the strategy is twofold: providing the full remarks if her comments are reported inaccurately, and amplifying her message to her following.

“It’s proved to be very successful,” Dyer said. “If we have this fire clip that will go viral, which it often does, especially when she puts the media in their place, then it would be political malpractice to not use that, to not advance the message that we’re trying to put across.”
