Watch live: White House holds press briefing as Israel-Hamas fighting continues

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is set to hold the daily press briefing Tuesday afternoon alongside national security advisor Jake Sullivan.

President Biden has had to steer a new course in Mideast policy since Saturday’s attack on Israel by Hamas. The U.S. has sent the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Gerald R. Ford to support Israel’s effort to contain fighting to a single front at Gaza.

U.S. diplomacy to improve relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel are likely to be put on hold. Efforts to curb involvement by Iran, the presumed sponsor of Hamas, could extend to keeping Russia and China from any stance that could endanger Israel.

The briefing is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT.
