Schumer gives remarks on rise of antisemitism in America: Watch live
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is giving what he described as a “major address” on the rise of antisemitism in the U.S.
In a statement, Schumer described his unique position as “the highest-ranking Jewish elected official” as carrying a duty to call attention to the situation.
Antisemitic incidents around the country saw an immense year-over-year increase following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel and the ensuing war, according to statistics from the Anti-Defamation League.
Within Schumer’s home state, New York City’s crime statistics also show a dramatic increase during October compared to last year. Out of the 101 hate crimes reported in the city during that month, 69 were incidents of antisemitism.
Schumer is expected to speak at 10 a.m. EST.
