President Biden and first lady Jill Biden will participate in the 101st annual lighting of the National Christmas Tree on the White House Ellipse Thursday.
A minor accident added a moment of drama to the tradition when heavy winds Tuesday afternoon toppled the 40-foot Norway spruce. The National Park Service (NPS) had it standing again by that evening.
The celebration is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. EST.
