The House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations on Wednesday morning is slated to hold a hearing on Iranian funds and sanctions in the wake of the ongoing war between Israel and militant Palestinian group Hamas.
The House voted last month to pass a bill that would force the Biden administration to permanently freeze $6 billion in funds it had opened up to Iran earlier this year in exchange for the release of five American detainees.
Republicans have slammed the deal since it was announced in August, though the White House has defended the decision to unfreeze the funds, arguing it was necessary to release the five Americans who they considered wrongfully detained.
The deal is now back in the spotlight because of Iran’s long-standing support of Hamas.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. EST.
