Georgia senate committee hears from lawyer who surfaced Willis, Wade romance: watch live

The Georgia state Senate Special Committee on Investigations will hold its second meeting Wednesday, as it investigates Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s (D) romantic relationship with a prosecutor she hired to oversee former President Trump’s criminal case.

The committee will hear from Ashleigh Merchant, an attorney representing one of Trump’s co-defendants in the historic racketeering case who first brought to light Willis’s relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Merchant is aiming to have the district attorney’s office booted from the case as a result, and her motion sparked the state senate committee’s formation earlier this year. Willis has acknowledged the relationship but has portrayed the calls for her to step aside as baseless.

The committee’s latest meeting comes as a judge weighs whether to kick Willis off Trump’s case. Though the committee has no authority to disqualify the district attorney themselves, the hearing is set to keep her one-romantic relationship in the limelight.

The hearing is set to begin at 9 a.m. EST.
