Watch: Biden, Macron deliver joint remarks on conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza
French President Emmanuel Macron is hosting President Biden and first lady Jill Biden for a state visit Saturday in Paris, as the two nations seek to reveal a partnership over global security issues.
Both leaders attended ceremonies over the past couple of days in Normandy and Paris to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. In separate meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Biden and Macron also reupped their vows to help the embattled nation in its war with Russia.
During his meeting with Zelensky, Biden had drawn common cause between the allied forces that helped free Europe from Nazi Germany and today’s effort to support Ukraine against Russia’s invasion. He also apologized for the months-long delay of new U.S. military aid to Ukraine, which Washington and Kyiv have both said led to Russian advances across the battlefield.
Macron and Biden also discussed their efforts to bring about a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
