Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president, is set to deliver remarks tonight at the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) annual national dinner in Washington.
Walz is considered a longtime LGBTQ advocate, with Minnesota banning conversion therapy and enacting laws shielding access to gender-affirming health care and abortion under Walz’s administration.
Walz was in Erie, Pennsylvania earlier this week for his first solo trip since joining the Democratic ticket led by Vice President Kamala Harris.
His remarks tonight come as Walz outperformed Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Republican nominee for vice president, in a recent Suffolk University/USA Today survey. The poll found 48 percent of likely voters say they see Walz in a positive light. In contrast, 37 percent of the same group said they see Vance in a positive light.
Walz is expected to speak at 6 p.m. EDT.
