Watch: Vance courts voters in Michigan after second Trump assassination attempt
Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), former President Trump’s running mate, delivered remarks Tuesday at a campaign event in Michigan, just days after a second assassination attempt was made on Trump’s life.
The former president was golfing at his resort in West Palm Beach, Fla., Sunday when the suspect allegedly pushed the muzzle of a rifle through the perimeter of the golf course, prompting a Secret Service agent to fire. Identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, the suspect was accused of possessing a firearm despite being a convicted felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Tuesday’s rally also came as Vance and Trump face scrutiny over false claims about a town in neighboring Ohio, where they have pushed conspiracy theories around Haitian migrants and eating pets.
In the battleground state, Trump is trailing Vice President Harris by less than 1 point — 47.4 percent to 48.2 percent — according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s aggregate polling index. The Great Lakes State boasts 15 Electoral College votes.
